    Welcome!

How long since you first used a BBS :)

What brought you back after such a long absence?

I think it was around 1993 ish, I remember I was still in school, so must be around that time. I always preferred BBSes over the internet, I don't know why but it just felt very different.

I would love someone to be able to explain why BBSes felt so much better back then? (and even still) - maybe because connections feel more personal and meaningful, like chatting to some guy in a bar or something?

I've always liked them more, specifically because of the door games. It was fun to get online and play your turns on something ( like BRE or Tradewars ), and wait in suspense for the next day to roll around and see what damage the other's did to you, or if your attacks did well and stuff. It was also neat to talk to other people in the city over the chat functions and then the BBS meet ups that we used to have. Those were all fun!

yep those days are over though. they will never be the same again.
i couldnt see us having a bbs get together unless i showed up and i would be sitting on top of a dunk tank. honestly, though. i couldn't think of a more boring thing to do than to get the bunch of us together. it wasnt like that
    in the dialup days.

I think you just answered your own question, which I agree with.

I think simply because it was all we had, and there wasn't as much on the Internet as there was today, and BBS's were more alive. For me, I liked the locality of it, the ANSI graphics and colour and the exploration. The other thing, for me, was I had friends logging onto the same BBS's, so there was this sense of community, of a shared experience.

The 'net today is so big, you feel like a minnow in the ocean, whereas the BBS is a much smaller scale, a much more...human...scale. I can get to know most people here, whereas on reddit, there are thousands and thousands, and while you might get to know people, you're in the midst of a massive crowd. BBS's are more intimate.
