wedded spouse??". Well, the BBS computer is in what was my late
parents bedroom, and I have a computer in my bedroom, so I wonder
if I am the one getting screwed. <G>

Sorry for the delay on replying...I discovered that I had the
WRONG password for QWK Networking/DoveNet in my setup. I had not
logged onto Vertrauen for QWK Mail in so long, that my user and
QWK accounts were zapped for inactivity.

I was having trouble with him connecting over here via telnet,
until I saw that the PeerBlock utility was blocking his connect,
for whatever reason.

He's not able to connect to me, but I did connect to his system
via BinkP.

I did discover that my QWK Networking Password for DoveNet was
WRONG, and that's why I wasn't getting any messages <BLUSH!>.

That was like the time before I got engaged to the woman who
became my wife and "Married With Modem Sysop". The BBS was at
my parents place (both are dead and gone now, but it's still
here), and I went to visit my girlfriend.

I was using GT Power Software under dial-up, and when I wanted
to logon, I did so with a macro from the local console. I had
installed the telcom program on her computer, and connected to
my BBS. I hit the macro key, and nothing happened.

Then, it hit me...

1) You are not at the host console.

2) You don't know your password.

3) You can't logon to your own BBS.

I felt so stupid. <G>

No license is required to listen...just to transmit. The FCC got rid
of the Morse Code requirement 18 1/2 years ago, so now you only need to
pass a 35 question multiple choice test on rules, regulations, propagation,
RF Safety, and basic electronic theory. The exams are taken from pools that
are in the public domain, with at least 10 times the number of questions on
the test in the pool...but a lot of the questions are similar.

the exam, and will likely pass. You can miss 9 questions on both the
Technician and General 35 question exams, and 13 questions on the
Amateur Extra 50 question exam, and it still counts as a perfect

But, if after adequate study time and practice tests, you still
fail the exam, send them PROOF of the failure. They will CANCEL
your subscription, and refund your money. So, you either get your
amateur radio license, or your money back...YOU CAN'T LOSE!!

As a side note, Morse Code knowledge is NO LONGER REQUIRED for a
US Amateur Radio License. You can still learn and use it, but you
no longer have to prove that you know it.

i looked at the practice test for technician and it's laughable.
i hope the real exam questions are more difficult.
